Just a note to say that Bill Kerylow, (Best bike November 2008) passed away this week of an illness.
Sad day for all of us in the vintage motorcycle community.
Bill was a great guy and a fine friend. I met him 10 years ago through our common interest in vintage Moto Guzzis. We often rode our bikes together in the hills above LA, most notably to the Rock Store and a few times to Cooks Corners.
Bill, you will be greatly missed.
RIP, Bro.

I do like the taped off area for vintage bikes so they are grouped together. However, the size of the
event coupled with the parking restrictions makes it hard now for those to find parking for their more current bikes.
It seems as though this may be part of the reason why attendance dropped from 150 bikes in March to 105 in April even thought
the weather was near perfect in April.
That being said; here is my idea: move the venue to the new Triumph/Ducati dealership
parking lot at 1601 Newport Blvd www.ducatinewportbeach.com I was there yesterday (Sunday) and could not help but notice the huge size
of their lot with plenty of room for the a vintage bike corral and parking for all other bikes. Then an image came to mind of enthusiasts wandering about the showroom of this extremely well laid out facility dedicated specifically to motorcycles...enjoying the new Triumph and Ducati models on display and all the accessories. They even have a big screen HD flat screen TV and were airing the Grand Prix while I was there. Their location at 16th Street at Newport Beach Blvd is about 10 minutes from Beach Burgers and has easy access from any direction inbound. I could even envision a food truck and/or portable coffee kiosk set up for the monthly event. I mentioned my idea to Chris there at the dealership and he provided me the owner's email which is mike@ducatinewportbeach.com Perhaps Joe or someone might want to make contact with Mike and explore the idea. Based on what I've seen of the attendess to the events at Beach Burgers, it's clear Ducati Triumph will benefit in sales of motorcycles, accessories and service appointents from this well-heeled group of riders.
Best!

Dana, Thanks for your comment and suggestion. I think attendance dropped because we stopped advertising on Craig's list. You're right, we don't have enough space at Beach Burgers to support 150 bikes.
Our event has grown from a low of 6 bikes to what it is today. I'm happy with 30 Vintage Bikes vs 300 new bikes.
Beach Burgers is a great host. Our last host kicked us out when we grew to 50 bikes.
I'm not planning on moving from Beach Burgers any time soon. - Joe
Okay, I'm not bringing any display bikes. Even though my lovely little Italian bike WILL run, I've chosen not to ride it because I have other bikes to ride that run better, stop better, and are MUCH easier to find parts for. How many of the bikes that were at last week's meet came in on trailers or in trucks? The bike that won April 'bike of the month', was it ridden in on the street? I can keep bikes running with the best of them, have been restoring and selling to collectors for 25 years. If the membership has no interest in seeing non-running bikes, stay out of any motorcycle museum you care to name!Ryan (
romoses3@yahoo.com)
USA - Thursday, April 14, 2011 08:22:13 am (PDT)
We want to see any bike, running or not. Some aren't street legal so they have to be trailered. We can exclude them from the contest, but it's also a popular vote. The people voted for their favorite bike. Please bring whatever you want - Joe
Come on guys; allowing non-running bikes to compete defeats the purpose. Cosmetics are one thing-- keeping an old beauty running is the real craft. Otherwise, why bother?Vintage bike owner

Thanks for your comment. You're not alone. I was debating about putting a number on that bike because it's a non-runner. I let the voters decide, but it may become a new rule. Running bikes only. - Joe
We had a great meet today 102 bikes. Unfortunately my power is out and not expected back on until 8:30AM Monday. I won't be able to process photos or update the site for a couple of days...Joe Kagerer (

I've brought both of my running bikes to the meet (1979 R100RT, 1982 Ascot FT500), but would like to bring a non-running bike for folks to look at. It's a 1966 Italian bike my son and I built as a display bike. However, if you think a non-running display bike would cause an issue, please let me know.Ryan Moses (

Ryan, you're welcome to bring any bike to our event. Bring it down and let the voters decide. - Joe
so now we need to define "vintage" and enforce it? what is vintage to you...what you rode when you were younger..? unfortunately, i think vintage is a catch-all, and encompasses a heck of alot of bikes.. we can hope the guys on newer bikes would get the hint..welcome to the show but park over there!!!paul (

Hi Paul, Vintage for us means 30 years old or older as defined on the About Us page. - Joe
My we have grown since relocating to Beach Burgers from Mossimo's Pizza. If we got 30-35 bikes there it was considered a great turnout. I think I can safely say that the turnouts we've had these past few months have exceeded our wildest expectations! Now that our event has grown in size and popularity, a couple of new issues have presented themselves. First, this is supposed to be a "vintage" motorcycle event. There are too many modern bikes cluttering the very limited space we've been allocated. Secondly, some of the riders of high-performance crotch rockets were heard revving their machines to obnoxious levels, which, I fear, if allowed to continue, will create ill will with the other adjacent merchants and their clients, and therefore jeopardize the continuation of our event.
Let's not let a good thing get away from us... Bob Middleton (

Costa Mesa, CA USA - Monday, March 14, 2011 09:54:42 pm (PDT)
Thanks for your comments Bob, We are a victim of our own success!
Many people have brought up these issues.
In April we are going to attempt to organize the meet a little better by restricting the fire lane to Vintage Bikes Only.
My system for the Bike of the Month contest has become overwhelmed. I'm constantly working on developing a new system that
will make the meet run more smoothly with less effort. Thanks to the help of Debbie, Tom and Tink, we were able to handle the crowd. (sort of)
Anyone reading this, with any suggestions on how the meet could be improved should email me at info@vintagebikeoc.com.
Thanks for reading, and participating in the group.

Came to your March meet today. Xlnt..Iknow beach burgers is a public place but maybe a sign that bikes that are not a certain vintage, like the sport bikes and the Victory vision park outside the judging and showing area.my 2 cents

We are holding a vintage bike show/swap meet here at our store on April 2, 2011. It is just a little show we put together because several people expressed an interest. There is no charge and we will giving out a few modest prizes. It is just for fun. We have done this several in the past with a pretty nice turn out. Teddy and I came for our first visit to the event today (2/13/11) and what a great time we had. Perfect weather and some incredible exanples of vintage and antique motorcyles made for a fun day and a chance to show off our bikes (Yamaha RD400 & Honda ST90). Hey guys, Sears in Riverside is having a bike/car show Nov.15 from 4 to 8pm. There is a $10 entry fee which goes entirely to the Heroes At Home program. This program benefits the families of vets who are away fighting in the Mideast. There will be bands, vendors, food, raffles and inside the store everything will be between 10-20% off and that includes electronics, Levis, Dickies and clearance items. Hello fellow vintage bike enthusiasts,
As Executive Producer of MotoZania http://www.motozania.com I have covered many events over the past 17 months. My personal favorites are the Vintage Bike OC meets. I have enjoyed everybody who attends company, and really had a great time checking out their bikes. If you are in Southern California on the second Sunday of the month, do yourself a favor and come to this terrific event. If you can't make it in person, but want to show off your vintage bike, add it to the pages on MotoZania. http://www.motozania.com I hope to see you at Vintage Bike OC or your bike photos on MotoZania.

Hi there, my name is Mike Moon and I’m the motorcycle organizer for the Huntington Beach Concours – a car and bike show in its 24th year. This year the show is on Saturday June 6 and Sunday June 7. The website for the show is www.hbconcours.org. Bring your custom or classic bike to this established event and show it off or perhaps find someone interested in purchasing.
Simply download and print an entry form from the www.hbconcours.org website for the days you want to show (Saturday or Sunday), fill it out, and mail it in with the $15 entry fee.
Saturday June 6 is ‘hot rod and custom’ day at the show and I believe it’d be the best day to show a chromed out chopper, engraved custom, or unique bobber. Sunday June 7 is ‘concours’ day and will have the largest number of exhibitors – so pick a day or show both days. I’d suggest just Sunday for any restored or classic looking machine. Who knows, your bike might win something.
Show starts at 9am (you’d need to be setup by 8am) and ends at 4pm. You don’t have to be onsite for the show – but if your bike is selected for a trophy it’d have to be ridden up to the stage to collect the trophy.
You can email me at moonbandito@yahoo.com or call me at 949-274-5260 if you ‘ve got any questions.
Oh…and all the money raised goes to the childrens wing of the Huntington Beach Central library – so it’s tax deductible.
Entry fee is only $15 a day.

Hello, I just found this site and it looks great! I gave away two of my 50's & 60's bikes a few years ago.(Doah) I still have 6-7 sitting around. (not as nice as the ones I gave away) I still have two early 60's Benelli 125's and moped, a 65 Honda 90, a mid 70's Honda Dual Sport, a early 60's Suzuki 50cc street cycle, a early 70's Suzuki 90cc street bike, a 50's JAWA street bike, a few early 80's Honda cycles, a 81 Yamaha XS650, and a bunch of old mopeds. I know none of these are in the league of what most folks in this group ride. So I guess my question is, are any of them good enough to ride to one of your events? I won't be hurt if they don't measure up. Thanks and Take Care...
